Robert Glew Collection of Nigerien Material Culture
This collection, formed as part of a field study by MSU doctoral student Robert Glew, focuses on
the socio-economic and historical factors influencing the expression and definition of Islamic
religious identity and practice in South Central Niger. The collection consists of 70 objects of
ceremonial and religious importance, including talismans, Korans and Koran holders, prayer
clothing, jewelry and other personal attire, and works of creative religious expression. The
collection is fully documented with photographs of the site and the people from whom the objects
were collected.
