Despite the fact Stewart travels the world as a professional
business woman, she lives in her native community and remains firmly
tied to it and its traditions, including those related to quilting.
J. "Jimmie" Carole Stewart says that in her tribe, "the
quilt is an important part of the burial tradition. One of the last
gestures the family is able to perform for the deceased is to drape
a handmade quilt over the coffin before it is buried."
