Mary bought this quilt from Betty Harriman, who noted, "From
a sea captain's home in Marblehead, Mass." The quilting is
very close and fine. In places there are fourteen stitches to the
inch, with lines no more than a third of an inch apart. The quilt
has and extremely narrow binding cut on the straight grain of the
fabric. It is made of a red print, possibly purchased for the project,
and a fine white cotton, suggesting that the quilter was able to
afford to buy all new fabric and spend as much time as she wished
on the quilt.
