Lenora “Lennie” Rathbun showed her skills as a quilt maker in this one-of-a-kind quilt where she combined the Uncle Sam block designed by her friend Pat Clark with the Village Walk pattern, as well as other patterns she saw in Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine, Yeah Yeah USA!, and books published by Red Wagon. Lennie started this machine-pieced, hand-appliquéd, and hand-quilted work in a class taught by Madonna Ferguson who asked students to begin a small section of a quilt and add to it each week. During the class the Gulf War broke out and the war became the theme of the quilt.
