Album Quilt: Maker unknown. c1840.
Dorothy M. Zagar purchased this red, green and blue album quilt
from Mary Williams, Sebestopol, CA. Originally this quilt was
all red and green, Mary had them laundered at a commercial laundry
and some of the fabrics changed to blue. The theory being, the
green was dyed in two stages, blue with yellow on top and the
yellow washed off. The tops were in an Aunt's trunk in York,
PA. Her name was Prisella M. Garrett. When she passed away in
1958 or 1959 Mary inherited this and the one with the swag border.
The top was quilted by Mrs. Ola Rockwell, Annapolis, in about
1961, Mary states the top was received by her grandfather for
work he had done for a family. Mary's father who died at 96
says his father received the tops when he was a young man. |
