The donor’s great grandmother, Mary Jane Taylor Bannister was born on March 21, 1848 in Indiana. She lived across the street from a shirt factory in North Vernon, Indiana. Mary would collect scraps from the shirt factory and make quilt squares from them. In 1924, when the donor’s mother was just 14, the donor’s grandmother passed away. The great grandmother and great aunt then moved in with the family (donor’s aunt, donor’s mother, and donor’s grandfather). The great grandmother brought her quilt squares and scraps. She continued to make quilt squares into quilts for the family. The grandmother’s unused squares remained with the family long enough for the donor’s mother to sew some of them into doll quilts for Julia in 1949-early 50s.
