Two of the ten stained glass windows at Hope Lutheran Church are pictured here. The window on the left uses the familiar theme of "Jesus with the Children," seen often in ecclesiastical stained glass. This interpretation includes children clad in the traditional clothing of various cultures. Six families of the church gave this window as a special gift for all children. Other versions of this same scene can be viewed in the Windows of the Month for November 2000 and July 2002. The window on the right illustrates the biblical account of a miracle, "The Feeding of the Five Thousand." The young boy is shown offering his lunch of a few fish and loaves of bread, which Jesus will multiply to be shared with the hungry crowd that has gathered to hear him speak. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Durst Jr. donated this window in memory of their son, Evans Gerd Durst.
Designed by Detroit architect Harold Fisher, Hope Lutheran Church was built in 1960. The windows, added during alterations in 1987, are the work of the Calligan Studios of Ellerslie, Maryland.
Hope Lutheran Church of Dearborn was registered in the Michigan Stained Glass Census by Kenneth A. Monberg of Farmington (MSGC 01.0019).
