"The Jackalope"
Bob McConnell, date unknown.
MSUM acc# 95.031.20
Gift of C. Kurt Dewhurst and Marsha MacDowell.

Reportedly originating as a taxidermist's joke in 1934, the Jackalope or Warrior Rabbit developed its own legends. By the 1950s, the Jackalope appeared in tall tale postcard artists' repertoires and is still popular today.

The elusive and fierce Jackalope is said to have an excellent singing voice, echoing the songs of cowboys singing to their herds at night. A few communities, including Wall, South Dakota and Douglas, Wyoming claim to be the official home of the Jackalope, marketing a variety of Jackalope related postcards and souvenirs.
