Where to Park? Where to Park?
The national Folk Festival, a free festival on August 13 15, 1999, in downtown East Lansing, is expected to draw thousands of visitors from across the state. There will they all park? To answer that question, extensive planning has been completed to help visitors find easy and accessible parking.
Free Park and Ride
CATA (the Capitol Area Transportation Authority) will provide free shuttle service from three off-0site locations to the festival site. The shuttle will operate on a 20 minute rotation, providing convenient and accessible parking without a struggle. The hours are:
Friday, August 13, From 5:00 p.m., to 11:30p.m.
Saturday, August 14th, From 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 15th, From 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
1. MSU campus lot -- Hagadorn Road/Service Road Parking lot on the south side of the MSU campus (across from the USA Café). Drop-off: Along Grand River near storefronts. Pickup: Same
2. Abbott Center Abbott Center lot at 1400 Abbott Rd (next to Renos) north of Saginaw Street. Drop-off: M.A.C. Avenue near the Marriott Hotel. Pickup: Same
3. Former Hannah Middle School Trolley Abbott Road and Burcham Drive. This shuttle cuts through the heart of the festival and will travel down Evergreen to Grand River Avenue. The Shuttle will also travel to the east side of the festival site to the Division Street Garage. It will then return along the same route. Drop-offs: Peoples Church, along Grand River Avenue, and the Division Street Garage. Pickup: Same
Late Night Shuttles
On Friday and Saturday nights at 10:30 p.m., festival goers can catch shuttles back to their cars from the Evergreen Avenue next to People Church. Staging of busses will occur on Evergreen Avenue after evening shows at 10:30 p.m.
Parking for People with Disabilities
o Next to St. John's Student Parish, 327 M.A.C. Avenue (both sides of the street)
o East of Valley Court Community Center
o In designated areas at each Park & Ride parking area.
Area Parking
Michigan State University will not be in session and parking will be available at most lots and all visitor parking areas. (The lot adjacent to Olin Health Center on campus has been reserved for volunteers and technical staff.)
City Municipal Parking meters in the city outside of the festival site will be available,
- as will the surface parking lot on Bailey Street and three of the city's attended lots: the parking garage under the Marriott Hotel on M.A.C., the Charles Street (Jacobson's) parking garage, and the colorful Division Street parking garage. Municipal parking rates will be in, effect.
On-site Transportation
CATA will also provide trolley service on the festival site which runs from M.A.C. avenue to Valley Court Park. Filled with activities, music and food, the area will be easily walk-able for most people, but the trolley will help those who have small children or who need a little assistance getting around.
