Make a Caterpillar Puppet
Caterpillars are the larval stage of the Lepidoptera order, which includes butterflies and moths. The Second Floor Landing has a colorful display of these insects. If you like caterpillars, you can make your own fun caterpillar puppet!
You will need:
- Popsicle stick
- Pom-poms or cotton balls
- Needle and thread
- Googly eyes or a marker
- Glue
Step 1: Cut off about 2 feet of thread and thread your needle.
Step 2: Poke the needle through each pompom to create a pompom string. Pull the thread through until there are equal lengths on each side.
Step 3: Tie the string ends to the ends of the popsicle stick.
Step 4: Glue googly eyes to one end of your caterpillar (or make eyes with a marker).
Look Closer
We use muscles and bones to move our bodies around, but caterpillars don’t have bones. How do you think they are able to move their bodies?
