Learn More About Lauren
Originally from Colorado, Lauren K. O’Connor is one of 200 MSU Honors College freshmen awarded an Honors College Professorial Assistantship, to work with a faculty member of their choice for two years on research projects. This prestigious award is only offered to those students whose academic records place them in the top 1 percent of entering college freshmen nationwide and who have GPAs that place them in the top 5% of applicants to MSU.
Because Lauren was interested in gaining skills that might position her for future positions working with collections in archives and museums, she requested working with the Michigan Traditional Arts Research Collections at the Michigan State University Museum under the direction of MSU professor and curator Marsha MacDowell.
Since early fall 2021 Lauren has been working on various collections, both digital and physical. Working with cultural collections manager, Lynne Swanson, MacDowell, and graduate fellow Micah Ling she has also developed a Google Scholar summary of publications related to the Museum’s research, exhibition, and programs pertaining to cultural heritage.
Lauren is working on her Bachelor of Music degree in the College of Music at Michigan State University. An oboe player, she was a member of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra during high school and now a member of the MSU Symphony Band and Concert Orchestra.
