Wayang is the Bahasa word for the traditional art of shadow puppetry, a very rich and complex performance that narrates a heroic educational story often derived from South Asian epics. Eddy Kuntjoro and Yono Gareng are the Indonesian artists in Jambi City who have prepared the wayang for Palm Oil Pitfalls. They have adapted a classic story for the contemporary situation, preparing a script for a performance that takes palm oil as its central topic. Eddy, Yono, and their team made the puppets especially for this performance and composed the music. The puppet theatre performance will be presented on stage at their studio and video recorded for the program at MSU.

Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities at MSU organized Palm Oil Pitfalls in collaboration with the International Center at the National Islamic University Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi (Indonesia) and with the support of the Muslim Studies Program and the Asian Studies Center at MSU.
