DESCRIPTION:MSUFCU Arts Power Up artists-in-residence Carl Craig and Cecili
 e Waagner Falkenstrøm come together for a conversation exploring art\, te
 chnology\, and creative practice. Moderated by Sophia Saliby of WKAR\, the
  discussion offers insight into how artists working across disciplines ima
 gine and shape the future.\n\nThis event is presented in partnership with 
 the MSU Broad Art Museum\, Arts MSU\, and the MSUFCU Arts Power Up Artist-
 in-Residency program\, which is generously supported by an endowed gift fr

 n\n\nCecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm is an award-winning artist who has been 
 pioneering the use of artificial intelligence (such as LLM\, GPT)\, since 
 2016. She has received numerous global awards\, including the Lumen Prize 
 for Digital Art in 2017 and 2021\, and an Honorary Mention from Prix Ars E
 lectronica in 2023.\n\nOn view at the MSU Broad Art Museum from Jan. 31–
 Jul. 12\, 2026\, Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm’s Synthetic Sirens is a ga
 llery-sized installation developed out of generative machine-learning mode
 ls and artificial intelligence programs\, revealing both the limits of\, a
 nd opportunities within\, our algorithmic societies.\n\n\n\nCarl Craig is 
 a prominent figure in the world of Electronic music\, particularly known f
 or his work in the Techno genre. Hailing from Detroit\, Michigan\, he is c
 onsidered one of the key artists in the second wave of Detroit techno duri
 ng the late 1980s and 1990s. Craig has been influential in the genre\, bot
 h through his own innovative productions and by fostering the careers of o
 ther artists through his record label\, Planet E Communications.\nBeyond h
 is direct contributions to music production and DJing\, Craig has been inv
 olved in various collaborations and projects across different genres and m
 ediums. His work often bridges the gap between Electronic music and other 
 forms of art\, such as performance and installation art. Craig’s influen
 ce and contributions to the electronic music scene\, particularly Detroit 
 Techno\, have made him a respected and seminal figure in the industry.\n\n
 Craig will be in residence as part of the MSUFCU Arts Power Up Artist Resi
 dency program from mid-January through April 2026\, working in close colla
 boration with researchers at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB)\, 
 a world-unique rare isotope research laboratory. Through this residency\, 
 Craig will engage directly with cutting-edge scientific inquiry\, translat
 ing complex research environments into new creative and conceptual forms.\
 n\nAbout the Moderator\n\n\nSophia Saliby is an award-winning journalist a
 nd host of WKAR's local broadcast of All Things Considered every weekday a
 fternoon. She joined WKAR in 2020. Before that\, she worked at Georgia Pub
 lic Broadcasting in Atlanta and WFIU in Bloomington\, Indiana. Her work ha
 s also been heard nationally on NPR. Sophia strives to tell stories that b
 ring her audience closer together through community and joy.
