MSU Classes and Other MSU Group Visitors

The Michigan State University Museum welcomes MSU classes and other campus visitors to experience our science and culture exhibits. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday and has a barrier free entrance. We encourage instructors and group organizers to talk with a museum educator to help plan your visit.

Step 1: Schedule Your Visit

  • Museum visit format: Most of our group visits are self-guided. This gives you the opportunity to visit exhibits at your own pace and focus on specific topics of interest to you. Plan to spend at least one hour at the Museum. Talk to a museum educator about ways to get the most from your visit.
  • Orientation: We offer scheduled groups a 5-10 minute orientation to the Museum by a docent or Museum staff member. Call to schedule your visit: 517-432-1472. We recommend contacting us at least four weeks prior to your visit. Visits are normally scheduled between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Cost: There is no admission fee for students to visit the MSU Museum.
  • Parking: Parking in front of the Museum is limited. Please see the map for parking information.

Step 2: Arrival

  • If you are going to be more than fifteen minutes late, please call us at 517-432-1472.
  • Purchase parking permits for campus visitor spaces at the Museum Store ($2.00 for two hours). Members of your group who park in a visitor space MUST purchase a permit. Please note that parking is limited in front of the Museum.
  • Remind bus drivers to park in designated parking areas on the MSU campus.
  • Groups should generally start their visits in the "Education Station" space on the ground floor. Cubbies are located here for personal belongings. If you have scheduled an orientation, a docent will meet your group.

Step 3: After Your Visit

  • Continue to use your MSU Museum visit as a reference in your teaching. Design follow-up activities for your students that feature activities and content from the Museum. Talk to an Education Team member about your ideas and for support with post-visit teaching.
  • Keep your strong connection to the MSU Museum! Let us know about needs for your next visit or more information.
