Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do you really do there? The Chocolate Party includes viewing the professional regional competition of chocolate "works of art," along with sampling of chocolate from local area favorites like BakeNCakes and How Sweet It Is. There is also a dessert making demonstration. 

     

  • How much is there to eat? Each vendor is required to bring a minimum amount of samples, and most bring between 600 and 1,000 pieces. We expect 7,000-10,000 samples to be given out during the event. 

     

  • Can I take samples home? NO. Some vendors may offer additional items for purchase, however we ask that no free samples be taken from the party. 

     

  • Are there foods/drinks besides chocolate? There are limited snacks such as pretzels, along with milk, dessert wine, and coffee. 

     

  • Is this a dressy event? What kind of attire? There is no dress code. Most people dress in business casual type attire. 

     

  • Is this appropriate for kids? How young? The event is not recommended for kids aged toddler to age 8 since they may become bored, tired or intimidated by the crowd. 

     

  • Can you bring a stroller? Strollers are allowed but not encouraged. The crowd and lines around vendor tables will make it very difficult to navigate the room. 

     

  • Is there a charge for children? Kids 10 and under will be allowed in free to accompany parents. 

     

  • Is there a special price for MSU students? Groups? No student discounts. Groups may call 432-4655 to arrange for a group-discount purchase of ten or more tickets. 

     

  • Are there accommodations for wheelchair users? Volunteers can help persons with disabilities navigate the room. Please call 432-4655 in advance to make arrangements. 

     

  • Why is it so much money? The cost of producing the event runs several thousand dollars. As a benefit for the MSU Museum, any additional proceeds from this fundraiser go directly to the museum. 

     

  • Is this tax deductible? No. As stated by IRS regulations, your ticket purchase is in exchange for receiving goods or services. No portion of the ticket purchase is tax deductible. If you overbid the value of an auction item, the amount of the overbid is deductible. 

     

  • Is parking fee included? Where do I park? Parking will be reserved for Party Attendees in the attached Kellogg Center Ramp on Harrison for free. You may need to pick up a parking voucher when leaving the party. 

     

  • How can someone enter the competition?  The deadline for entries is about one month before the competition each year.  A competition application is available on the Competition info page, but you should first call or email our competition coordinator Tom Chaput  at glg@voyager.net  or 248-735-1700 to discuss your entry.
