Domicology is the study of the life cycle of the built environment. Through this exhibition, we will explore the ways we can shift our thinking about how we construct our buildings to better support communities and the environment. Currently, we build homes, people live in them, and then they are abandoned or demolished, with all of the materials used in their constructions left to waste. If, instead of accepting this linear model of building construction, we think of it as a cycle and develop methods and principles of using materials and techniques that can be reused after the useful life of a building. This exhibition is developed by the MSU Museum with content expertise provided by faculty and staff from the Center for Community and Economic Development, the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction, and MSU Surplus and Recycling.
