Event Type

Fall in love with science this February 14th with SciCurious at the MSU Museum. This event brings together students, faculty, and staff from across MSU to showcase scientific research collections and ignite curiosity. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, explore special collections not normally on display, and engage with MSU experts across multiple scientific disciplines.

This program is co-sponsored by the MSU Museum, MSU Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Program, and Abrams Planetarium.

Featuring:

  • Abrams Planetarium: Get a close-up look at samples from the new meteorite collection.
  • A.J. Cook Arthropod Research Collection: Explore MSU’s preserved insect specimens typically not open to the public.
  • Beal Botanical Garden and Campus Arboretum: View live plant specimens from the greenhouse collection, make native seed bombs for spring, and learn to identify annual vs perennial plants.
  • MSU Bug House: Touch live insects!
  • Fisheries and Wildlife Club: Play a salmon board game, where you use managing techniques to get a “salmon” from the ocean to their spawning grounds, and learn about Michigan wildlife via different animal furs.
  • Genetics and Genome Sciences: Explore comics of plant breeding success stories to learn about the power of germplasm collections, and see examples of corn kernels that show the diversity of colors that corn comes in.
  • MSU Herbarium: Try your hand at botanical illustration and see Valentines Day-themed herbarium specimens.
  • Herpetology Club: Engage with live reptiles!
  • MSU Libraries: Draw inspiration from examples of the science comic collections at MSU Libraries, then draw a comic of your favorite scientist!
  • Micropaleontology: Look through microscopes to view microfossils.
  • MSU Museum: View vertebrate specimens not normally on display to the public and get a chance to talk with biologists, herpetologists, and museum collections experts.
  • Plant Biology Club: Make a plant-themed bookmark, play a plant-matching game, and see plants from the conservatory and teaching greenhouse.
