Food Futures

Dr. Sonja Stummerer and Martin Hablesreiter (known as honey & bunny), the artists behind this photo series, focus on food design, an emerging term for a discipline that examines everything from the appearance of the food we consume to our choices to support (or ignore) the creation of ethical, sustainable practices around food production. The use of the word design is meant to draw attention to the way human systems (such as politics, economics, and culture) shape what we eat and our access to healthy, environmentally-friendly options. Through their photography and performance art, Summerer and Hablesreiter hope for audiences to think more critically about where our food comes from, the aesthetic choices that surround how our food is marketed, and the way that culture shapes our diets.
