MSU Museum Presents SciCurious? Explore MSU’s Science Collections

MSU Museum invites the community to SciCurious?, a new event showcasing Michigan State University’s diverse scientific collections. This free, interactive experience will take place on Saturday, February 15, from 1:00 PM to 3:00PM at the Natural Science Building (288 Farm Lane, East Lansing, MI 48824).A promotional graphic for SciCurious, an event at the MSU Museum. The design features a magnifying glass highlighting the word "Sci" in "SciCurious?" with an image of insects on a leaf inside the lens. A dotted path connects illustrations of insect metamorphosis stages, leading to a detailed drawing of a moth on a branch. The event details, "Explore MSU’s Science Collections," are written in green text, with the date and time, "Saturday, February 15, 1:00 – 3:00 PM," displayed below in white text on a dark green background. The MSU Museum logo appears in the upper right corner.

Building on the MSU Museum’s long-standing tradition of celebrating science, including a 20-year run of Darwin Discovery Day, SciCurious? continues to bring together students, faculty, and staff from across MSU to ignite curiosity and foster collaboration in the sciences. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, explore special collections, and engage with MSU experts across multiple scientific disciplines.
This year’s event features:

  • Explore the MSU Bug House – Get up close with fascinating live insects.
  • Behind-the-scenes tours of the Entomology Collections – Explore MSU’s insect specimens and research initiatives, typically not open to the public.
  • MSU Museum Collections on View – See specimens from the MSU Museum’s natural science collections, highlighting contributions to research and discovery.
  • MSU Student Clubs & Organizations – Meet MSU student groups passionate about science and showcasing their research through interactive displays and demonstrations.

Danita Brandt, associate professor emeritus in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and a longtime organizer of science outreach at MSU, highlighted the value of these experiences, “One of the most rewarding aspects of this event is the face-to-face interactions between visitors and student and faculty researchers. Science is about curiosity, discovery, and exploration, and we can’t wait to share that excitement with the community.”
