MSU Museum & The Cadre Launch Electronic Music Series

The Michigan State University (MSU) Museum is partnering with The Cadre, a student-led collective, to present three evenings of electronic music this fall at the Museum’s temporary space at 311 Abbot Road, East Lansing.

Performances will take place on September 20, October 24, and November 22, 2025, from 6:00–11:00 PM. Each event will feature four DJs, offering an all-ages, inclusive space where everyone is invited to enjoy music and community. Admission is free with a recommended donation.A crowd of people dances under intense red lighting in a dark indoor venue, facing a DJ performing on stage. The figures appear blurred due to motion, conveying the energy and movement of the scene.

The Cadre first collaborated with the MSU Museum in April 2025, when they organized a student-driven techno event that was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and strong attendance. Building on that success, the Museum and The Cadre are continuing the program this year with expanded performances.

Mark Sullivan, MSU Museum CoLab Studio Creative Director and professor in the College of Music, has been working closely with the students to help The Cadre establish itself as a registered student organization.

“These events embody the Museum’s commitment to creating a third space for students, a place that supports wellness, creativity, and community outside the classroom,” said Sullivan. “By partnering with The Cadre, we are not only supporting student leadership but also connecting the Museum to contemporary music culture in meaningful ways.”

At each performance, The Cadre will highlight a community organization to receive donations. The September 20 show will fundraise for All of the Above Hip Hop Academy, an organization dedicated to youth development through hip hop culture and the arts.

Zach Oliver, founder and organizer of The Cadre booking collective, emphasizes the group’s vision for the series:

“Our goal with the series is to continually develop a culture of supporting the arts and advocacy efforts within the university and the Lansing metro area. The Museum’s continued support gives us a platform to showcase and support performers and community organizations who are leaving a tangible impact upon our communities.”

The Cadre shows align with the MSU Museum’s broader mission to connect students, artists, and the public in innovative, interdisciplinary ways while fostering accessible and inclusive programming.
