You wondered if it would come to this.

When generative artificial intelligence (AI) became accessible to the public in late-2022, it accelerated disruption in every aspect of our lives. What was once the realm of science fiction became reality, one that presented both opportunities and profound challenges for our ethical, creative, and democratic practices.

Different forms of AI became more integrated in the tools we use every day faster than policy, education, or research could fully understand their impacts. Or regulate them.

And then we were here.

About the Exhibition

Reality Check invites you to discuss the ways that rapid technological developments in AI might redefine our society.

When you step inside this gallery, you enter a speculative future where AI is deeply embedded in the ways we remember the past, navigate the present, and determine the future. In some cases, these exhibits model ways AI is already in use. In others, they are only fantasy. All these works challenge us to examine the contemporary ways technologies shape our experiences and conversations, now and into the future.

It will be up to all of us to determine what that future will hold.

Your Role: To Define the Future

You are a part of this exhibition. As you enter the gallery, you take on the role of a technology auditor. Your task: to weigh the profound challenges and opportunities of different applications of AI. As you interact with these works, consider the choices behind them.

Where should these technologies be embraced? Where must they be more restricted or modified? And where should they be eliminated entirely?
